The Counterpoint Player is an educational music-theory app. It plays famous public-domain musical scores and reveals their counterpoint through three synchronized layers of Schenkerian analysis.

Privacy Policy

We keep data to a minimum: no user accounts, no advertising, no cross-app tracking, and nothing is ever sold or shared for marketing. The app requests no access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos, or files. What little the app does process is listed below, and none of it is linked to your identity.

Purchases. The optional Pro subscription is bought through Apple App Store or Google Play billing; your payment details stay with the store and never reach us. To keep purchases unlocked, the app uses the RevenueCat service with a randomly generated anonymous identifier (shown as “Support ID” inside the app). Your purchase history is tied to that anonymous identifier — not to your name or email, which we do not have.

Usage statistics. The app records anonymously which of its screens and scores are used, under a random device-generated identifier, so we can see which content helps and improve it. This is not linked to your identity and is never used for advertising.

Notifications. If you allow notifications, the app registers a push token — a random code issued by Apple or Google for this installation — so we can tell you about new scores and, through a silent check, learn whether the app is still installed. The token is stored under the same random device identifier as the usage statistics, is never linked to your identity, and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

Score questions. If you use the built-in question feature, the question you type is processed by our server and an AI service to produce the answer, and stored without any account or identity so we can improve the teaching content. Please do not include personal information in questions.

Sharing a moment. Sharing a passage creates a short random link code that references the shared bars and settings. It contains no personal data.

Feedback. If you fill in the optional anonymous feedback form, your answers are stored without your identity; personal names and email addresses are removed automatically, while school, city, or country names you mention may be kept as anonymous statistics.

Content delivery. Audio recordings and score artwork are streamed from our hosting purely to deliver the app’s content. As with any web request, the hosting provider may process technical data (such as your IP address and standard server logs) to serve those files. We receive no personal information from this.

Your choices. Since there are no accounts, we hold nothing that identifies you. If you would like the purchase records tied to your Support ID, or a question you typed, deleted, email us and include the Support ID shown in the app’s About screen. The app is suitable for all ages. If our practices change, this page will be updated with a new date.

Terms of Use

The Counterpoint Player is provided “as is”, for personal and educational use, without warranty of any kind. The musical scores are in the public domain. The software, the original Schenkerian annotations, the recordings, and the artwork are © Musemantik; you may not redistribute them as your own. Use of the app constitutes acceptance of these terms.

The Pro subscription renews monthly until cancelled and is managed and cancelled in your App Store or Google Play account settings; the price is shown in the store before purchase, and a free trial, where offered, converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled before it ends. On iOS, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
